Former Presidential Candidate Sues CBN, Others for £990 Trillion Over Rights Allegations

Former Presidential Aspirant Sues CBN, Banks for £990 Trillion

A former presidential aspirant, Tunde Omosebi, has filed a lawsuit against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), several commercial banks, and other entities, seeking a staggering £990 trillion in damages.

Omosebi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform, filed the suit before Justice James Omotosho of a Federal High Court in Abuja. He alleges that the defendants violated his fundamental rights and seeks their conversion to other entities, including a “Reserve Bank of Nigeria” and a “DRIG BANK.”

In the suit, Omosebi also demands exemplary damages of £99 trillion and a 10% interest on the total recoverable amount, along with N5 million as court filing fees.

The lawsuit names the CBN, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB), Zenith Bank, the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the Ministry of Finance as defendants.

Omosebi alleges that the defendants breached his fundamental rights, including the right to own property and access his bank accounts. He claims that his accounts have been inaccessible for several months, and that millions of dollars promised to him have not been credited. He also alleges that the CBN made false statements about him.

Omosebi further claims to be the “Chairman, Federation Executive Council” and “Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” despite these positions not being recognized under the Nigerian constitution.

Justice Omotosho has fixed February 5 for the hearing of the case.
