GHANA ARRESTS 48 NIGERIANS LINKED TO CYBERCRIME OPERATIONS.

No fewer than 48 Nigerians have been taken into custody in Ghana over alleged involvement in romance scams, online investment fraud and other cybercrime-related activities.

The arrests come just days after Ghanaian authorities deported at least 42 Nigerians from the Ashanti Region for offences linked to prostitution, fraud and similar crimes. The deportation was earlier announced by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, via a Facebook post on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

While the specific date of the latest arrests was not revealed, Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Samuel George, confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday. He explained that the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated security operation in Dawhenya, located in the Ningo-Prampram Constituency.

According to George, the raid was intelligence-driven and jointly executed by the Cyber Security Authority of Ghana, National Security operatives and the Ghana Police Service after credible cyber intelligence was obtained.

He disclosed that those arrested, believed to be Nigerian nationals based on initial questioning, include 46 men and two women. The suspects are reportedly connected to various online crimes such as romance fraud, fake investment schemes, impersonation scams and illegal online gold trading.

Security operatives also recovered several items during the operation, including 54 laptops, 39 mobile phones, a Starlink internet device and eight MTN TurboNet routers.

Ghanaian authorities have intensified their crackdown on cybercrime, and similar operations in the past have led to the arrest and prosecution of Nigerians for offences ranging from internet fraud to identity theft, as previously reported by PUNCH Metro.
