Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, renowned relationship coach and head of David Christian Centre, has defended his Bible-inspired tattoo, describing it as a unique method of evangelism.
The tattoo, unveiled in a video on Okonkwo’s official Instagram page on Saturday, features the scripture John 3:16 in Roman numerals — “III: XVI.” The clip, released to mark his 50th birthday, opens with a voice-over of the verse, widely regarded as a central message of the Gospel.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the pastor wrote, “While some religious brothers and sisters focused on judging the tattoo, they overlooked the fact that John 3:16 was shared with millions within 24 hours across numerous blogs.”
The video’s release sparked mixed reactions online. Critics questioned the appropriateness of a pastor having a tattoo, citing biblical teachings. One user commented, “The Bible says we should not make a mark on our skin… God’s word hasn’t changed, so I say hmmmm!” Another added, “Does this pastor not know it’s a sin to tattoo his skin? As a pastor, you should lead by the Bible.”

However, many praised the tattoo as a creative act of faith. Supporters highlighted its message and commended Okonkwo for using modern, unconventional methods to spread the Gospel. Some joked about following his example, while others simply expressed admiration.
Known for his contemporary approach to relationship and marriage teachings, and for engaging younger audiences, Okonkwo continued to share moments from his birthday celebrations. He advised followers to remain calm amid the debate, saying, “Those who want to hear about tattoos, drink water and relax. We will talk on Monday after the weekend celebrations.”

Okonkwo framed the tattoo as a bold form of evangelism, turning controversy into a conversation about spreading the Gospel in creative ways.
