At least 27 people have been killed in a joint Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorist attack in Shuwari Sholi community, Madagali Local Government Area, Adamawa State, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The insurgents reportedly stormed the village on motorcycles, targeting residents near the market and in open areas. Several structures were set ablaze during the attack, which lasted several hours. Among the dead is the village head, Bademi Papka, who is a cousin of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

An eyewitness described how residents fled in different directions for safety as the attackers fired sporadically. “By God’s grace, some of us escaped unhurt, but many were shot dead while we scampered toward the mountains,” the source said. Military personnel reportedly arrived after the attackers had left.

Former Madagali Local Government chairman, Maina Ularamu, confirmed the attack but noted that casualty figures might vary, as the exact number will only be known after the community recovers from the initial chaos.

The incident underscores the persistent security challenges facing northern Nigeria, where communities continue to live under the threat of heavily armed terrorist groups, despite repeated assurances from government authorities and security agencies.
