INSECURITY: POLICE INTERCEPT 40 BAGS OF EXPLOSIVES WITH TRUCK DRIVER IN OYO.

The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted items suspected to be explosive devices in Saki, located in the Oke Ogun area of the state.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday, January 25, 2026, by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade.

According to the statement, the truck conveying the materials was intercepted, leading to the arrest of the driver, while a total of 42 bags of suspected explosive materials were recovered and taken into police custody.

The spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

He explained that specialised operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) unit have been deployed to secure the items and conduct detailed forensic examinations.

“The truck and the suspected materials were promptly secured and are currently in police custody,” the statement said.

“Upon receiving a briefing on the development, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed a comprehensive investigation. Consequently, personnel from the EOD and CBRN units were deployed to safely secure the items for forensic analysis.”

Ayanlade added that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact nature of the materials and their intended use.

He assured residents of the state that there is no cause for panic, stressing that the police will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
