INSECURITY: TERRORISTS ATTACK NIGER COMMUNITY, SEVEN FEARED DEAD.

The weekend witnessed both tragedy and operational successes on Nigeria’s security front. Suspected terrorists killed seven people in Wawa, a community in Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State, while military operations in Kwara State and Kaduna recorded significant victories against bandits and kidnappers.

In Wawa, one of the victims was a staff member of Kainji Lake National Park, whose body had not been recovered at the time of reporting. The attack has left the agrarian community in mourning and heightened fears about insecurity in the Borgu Emirate. Six unidentified bodies recovered from the bush were deposited at the Basic Health Centre, Wawa. Residents described the attack as traumatic and called for calm, urging the public to avoid spreading rumours that could worsen tensions.

The crisis reportedly began after a prominent youth was attacked on his farm. Local youths mobilized to confront the assailants, but some failed to return, prompting a search that led to the discovery of the bodies. Borgu has suffered repeated bandit attacks in recent months, forcing many residents to flee their homes. Community leaders called on state and federal authorities to urgently intervene and restore peace.

Military Strikes in Kwara and Kaduna

In Kwara State, military forces hit terrorist camps across Edu, Ifelodun, and Patigi Local Government Areas, neutralizing numerous kidnappers and terrorists. Operations targeted hideouts in Baba Sango, Gbugbu, and Lata. Officials noted that intelligence leaks by local informants slowed operations, urging residents to report such activities to enhance security outcomes.

In Kaduna, troops of 1 Division/Sector 1, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, foiled a bandit attack in the Maraban Rido area, killing one suspected terrorist. Rustled livestock were recovered, and military personnel recovered weapons, including AK-47 rifles, magazines, and ammunition. Maj-Gen. Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, GOC 1 Division, praised the troops’ professionalism and urged the public to continue providing credible intelligence.

Rescue Operations in Kurmin Wali, Kaduna

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) confirmed ongoing intelligence-driven operations to rescue approximately 177 people abducted from Kurmin Wali, Kajuru LGA, during a church service last Sunday. Maj-Gen. Michael Onoja, Director Defence Media Operations, assured that operations prioritize the safe release of the captives while dismantling the criminal networks responsible. Families were urged to remain patient and cooperative as efforts continue.
