A 27-year-old man, Kabiru Nuhu, has been arrested for allegedly setting his 60-year-old father on fire in Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
According to the police, the incident happened in the early hours of April 1, 2026, in Magama Quarters, Kazaure town. The suspect was said to have poured a flammable substance, believed to be petrol, on his father before setting him ablaze.
Police spokesperson Shi’isu Adam said officers responded swiftly after receiving a report from a resident. The victim was found severely burnt and rushed to the hospital but later died while receiving treatment.

“The suspect was arrested with fresh burn injuries and wounds on his forehead, arms and toes,” Adam said, adding that preliminary investigations confirmed the attack.
The police noted that the suspect is facing charges of patricide, a grave offence under Nigerian law. He is currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, Haruna Yahaya, condemned the incident and assured the public that justice would be served. He also urged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and report any signs of domestic violence to the authorities.
Police authorities called on members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations, while appealing for anyone with useful information to come forward.
