The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has arrived at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja for his official decoration with the new rank.
Disu arrived at the Villa around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, according to correspondents at the scene.
His appointment follows the resignation of the former IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, whose exit was confirmed by the Presidency on Tuesday.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated in a release that President Bola Tinubu accepted Egbetokun’s resignation after he submitted a letter citing pressing family considerations requiring his full attention.
Disu, who was previously the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), was appointed acting IGP following Egbetokun’s departure.
The decoration ceremony marks the formal assumption of duties by the new police chief amid ongoing national security challenges.
