The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has openly expressed optimism that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf will defect to the party following his exit from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Sources had earlier reported that Governor Yusuf officially resigned from the NNPP on Friday, sparking widespread political speculation, although he has yet to publicly announce his next political destination.

Reacting to the development, the APC State Secretary, Ibrahim Zakari Sarina, said the party is ready to receive the governor and his supporters whenever he decides to make the move. Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust, Sarina described Yusuf’s resignation as a positive signal and a potential boost for the ruling party in the state.

“He is welcome. That is all we are going to say for now,” Sarina said.
“Even though he didn’t specifically declare for APC, we are hopeful that he will soon join us. Our doors are wide open, and we warmly welcome him.”
According to Sarina, the APC views the governor’s resignation as significant, especially amid reports that Yusuf may be moving with a large number of elected officials, political appointees, and grassroots supporters.

He further revealed that the party has already begun making arrangements ahead of a possible defection by reserving a special electronic registration number for the governor.
“We have commenced e-registration and have reserved the 001 registration number for the governor,” Sarina confirmed. “Yes, it is true. The number has been set aside for him at his Chiranci-Diso ward.”

The APC official added that the gesture was not limited to the governor alone, stressing that the party is equally prepared to absorb members of his cabinet, political associates, and supporters should they choose to defect alongside him.
As political realignments continue in Kano State, attention now turns to Governor Yusuf’s next move and which party he will ultimately align with following his departure from the NNPP.
