#Lagos Lawmakers Storm DSS Office, Secure Release of Detained Colleagues

About 30 lawmakers from the Lagos State House of Assembly stormed the Department of State Security (DSS) office in Magodo to demand the release of their detained colleagues, Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu and Hon. Lanre Afinni.

The two legislators were invited by the DSS, reportedly in connection with the removal of former Speaker Mudasiru Obasa on January 13 while he was abroad on vacation. Obasa, who was ousted over several allegations, had petitioned the DSS to investigate the process of his removal.

Lawmakers Defend Their Actions

In a statement signed by Jon Ogundipe Olukayode on behalf of the lawmakers, they explained that their visit to the DSS Lagos command was to provide clarity on the constitutionality of Obasa’s removal.

“Our action is in line with constitutional provisions and the democratic process. Sections 92 and 96 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) outline the procedures for the election and removal of the Speaker,” the statement read.

Resolution Achieved

Following the lawmakers’ intervention, the detained Assembly members were released, reaffirming the legislators’ stance that Obasa’s removal was done legally and in the interest of Lagosians. 🚨
