Lagos Police Officer Remanded in Kirikiri Over Alleged Assault on Teen in Office

An Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos State, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of 56-year-old policeman Owolabi Akinlolu at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre over allegations of misconduct involving a 17-year-old girl.

HEADLINENEWS.NEWS reports that Akinlolu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police at Ogudu Police Station, allegedly invited the teenager to his office to help recover her stolen phone.

Reports indicate that the girl’s phone was taken by one-chance robbers while she was returning from Ikeja with her grandmother and siblings.

According to the allegations, the officer called the girl to his office on June 29, claiming that a suspect linked to the theft had been apprehended. However, upon her arrival, he reportedly acted inappropriately.

In July 2024, the victim’s mother, Mrs. Aramide Olupona, raised concerns about an alleged attempt to cover up the case, further alleging that the officer’s family had asked her to drop the charges, as he was nearing retirement in December 2024.

During Tuesday’s court session, the prosecution presented a seven-paragraph affidavit and requested the defendant’s remand, stating that the charges brought against him fell under Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Law (2015).

Magistrate O.O. Fagboun approved the prosecution’s request, ordering Akinlolu’s remand at the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre. The case was adjourned until March 11, 2025, for trial and further proceedings.
