LAGOS SEALS LADIPO MARKET OVER ENVIRONMENTAL INFRACTIONS

The Lagos State Government has shut down the Ladipo Spare Parts Market in Mushin due to ongoing violations of environmental regulations.

Authorities took the action following repeated incidents of indiscriminate waste disposal on road medians and highways, as well as illegal street trading in and around the market.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the closure on Sunday, stating that the decision became unavoidable after traders allegedly ignored multiple warnings.

Wahab said, “The Ladipo Spare Parts Market has been sealed due to the continued indiscriminate disposal of refuse on the median and highway, as well as illegal street trading along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway.”

This move is part of a broader enforcement campaign by the Lagos State Government targeting markets that fail to comply with sanitation and environmental standards.

Earlier actions include the sealing of Oja Oba Market in Ile Epo in July 2024 and the indefinite closure of Itedo Market in Lekki in October 2024 for repeated environmental breaches and unauthorized roadside trading.
