The Lagos State Government has announced plans to complete the Mile 2 and Marina transport interchange hubs within the next 13 months. This initiative is a key component of efforts to improve Lagos’ transport infrastructure and reduce commuter congestion through better integration of transportation modes.
Part of a Strategic Transport Masterplan
The construction of these hubs, which began in July 2024, is part of the Lagos Strategic Transport Masterplan (STMP). This plan seeks to create a comprehensive and interconnected transport network, integrating road, rail, water, and non-motorized transportation systems. These interchange hubs will serve as critical transfer points, enabling seamless transitions between different transport modes for commuters.
Commitment to Timely Completion
During a recent project inspection, LAMATA Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering the hubs on schedule. She emphasized that the project aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of making public transportation the preferred mode of commuting for Lagosians.
“All stakeholders are collaborating effectively to ensure these hubs are completed within the stipulated timeline,” Akinajo assured.
Funded Through Collaboration
The project is being funded through a combination of credit from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and counterpart funds provided by the Lagos State Government.
AFD’s Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Xavier Muron, highlighted the significance of the hubs in addressing first- and last-mile connectivity challenges, which are critical for easing congestion and enhancing the overall commuting experience in Lagos.
A Step Toward Efficient Transportation
Upon completion, the Mile 2 and Marina hubs are expected to revolutionize Lagos’ public transport system by providing safe, efficient, and interconnected transit options, ultimately improving the quality of life for millions of residents.
