Lamido Gives PDP 10-Day Ultimatum to Resolve Internal Crisis, Calls for Ibadan Convention Dissolution

Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has issued a 10-day ultimatum to the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to address escalating internal crises threatening the party’s stability.

Lamido made the announcement while addressing hundreds of supporters—including former chairmen, commissioners, and long-time political allies—who called for the dissolution of the Ibadan elective convention and the immediate establishment of a national caretaker committee to steer the party through its challenges.

The former governor criticized what he described as the marginalization of long-standing stakeholders like himself by “new forces” attempting to reshape the PDP’s structure, claiming this contributed to the current turmoil. He emphasized that his recent legal actions were driven not by personal ambition but by a commitment to preserving the PDP’s legacy and protecting his fundamental rights.

Lamido stressed that, according to the PDP constitution, Umar Damagum and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remain the party’s legitimate national leaders until December 8, 2025. He warned that failing to provide clarity on leadership matters would jeopardize the plans of aspirants, current officeholders, and those seeking re-election.

“I am advocating for a caretaker committee. I am calling on Wike, Damagum, and others to reconcile and support the formation of a unified caretaker body,” Lamido said.

He urged the party’s top hierarchy to convene a joint meeting to address its challenges transparently and chart a course toward restoring cohesion and credibility. Lamido also appealed to his supporters to remain calm and patient, noting that developments in the coming days would determine the party’s direction.
