Yusuf Buhari, son of former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, has indicated his intention to run for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 3, Yusuf revealed plans to contest the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He expressed his desire to contribute to effective leadership and drive development within the constituency.

The announcement was later confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the late president, who noted that the decision came after extensive consultations with political stakeholders.
Yusuf has largely stayed out of the public eye since his father left office, making this his most significant political step so far.

Meanwhile, APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State have reportedly endorsed Yusuf Buhari as their preferred candidate for the constituency. The endorsement followed a high-level meeting involving party leaders, elected officials, and political appointees across the area.
According to the council chairman, Usman Na Lado, the decision reflects a collective agreement aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the upcoming elections. He added that Yusuf was chosen based on his perceived capability and acceptance among party members.

The stakeholders also reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dikko Umar Radda as the party’s candidates for the presidency and governorship in 2027. Additionally, the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasiru Yahaya Daura, was backed for the Daura Senatorial seat.

The endorsements are seen as early political positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with party leaders encouraging increased grassroots mobilisation. However, some party insiders claim the move reflects the influence of the state governor, describing Yusuf Buhari as his preferred candidate.
