Legal practitioner Liborious Oshoma has stated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) shares responsibility for the recent actions taken by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the party.

Oshoma made the comments on Thursday during an interview on ‘Politics Today’ on Channels Television, responding to INEC’s decision over a leadership dispute in the ADC.

On Wednesday, INEC removed the names of former Senate President David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and Secretary of the party, respectively. This decision has drawn widespread criticism, with the ADC calling for the resignation of INEC chairman Prof Joash Amupitan and other senior officials.

Oshoma argued that blaming INEC alone is unfair. “If we blame INEC we should also blame ADC. It is very convenient to say INEC is trying to play safe, but the court did not ask INEC to play safe,” he said. He noted that the court only instructed parties to maintain the status quo.

He added that the ADC should first resolve internal legal disputes before challenging INEC or other parties, including the APC, to find a resolution.
