###MACRON SPEAKS WITH TINUBU ON PHONE, SAYS FRANCE WILL INTENSIFY COUNTER-TERRORISM SUPPORT FOR NIGERIA

French President Emmanuel Macron has reaffirmed France’s strong support for Nigeria as the country continues to face various security challenges, especially terrorism in the northern region.

In a message posted on his official X handle on Sunday, Macron revealed that he had a phone conversation with President Bola Tinubu, during which he assured that France would deepen its collaboration with Nigerian authorities.

He stated that he conveyed France’s solidarity regarding Nigeria’s security concerns and noted that, at Tinubu’s request, France will increase its support for both the government and affected communities. Macron also urged other international partners to increase their involvement, stressing that no country should remain passive in the situation.

Macron is the first world leader to publicly address Nigeria’s security situation following the recent decision by former US President Donald Trump to redesignate Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over alleged persecution of Christians.

France and Nigeria have continued to strengthen military ties, particularly in training, technology transfer, and joint maritime security operations.
