#Makinde Warns of Rising Terrorist Influx in Oyo, Vows Decisive Action

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has raised concerns about an increasing influx of terrorists into the state, attributing it to military operations driving them out of the Northwest.

Speaking during the 2025 annual inter-faith service for state workers at the Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, Makinde assured residents of his administration’s commitment to tackling the threat and ensuring security across the state.

Reflecting on recent challenges, he said, “The year 2024 was tough, with incidents of fire outbreaks, armed robberies, and kidnappings. In 2025, we will intensify efforts to address these issues.”

Makinde revealed alarming security updates, stating, “During a recent security briefing, I learned that bad elements from the Northwest are relocating here due to military pressure in their zones. During my birthday retreat, bandits camped just two kilometers from where I was staying. This highlights the seriousness of the situation.”

The governor called on traditional rulers and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities. “To our traditional rulers and residents, this is no joke. Report any unusual movements immediately. Bandits will find no haven in Oyo. I won’t rest until every part of this state is secure,” he affirmed.

The rise in terrorist and bandit activities continues to plague several Nigerian states, particularly in the North, causing widespread violence, kidnappings, and instability. Governor Makinde’s remarks underscore the urgency of addressing these threats to maintain safety and order in Oyo State.
