NASARAWA APC ADOPTS DIRECT PRIMARY, GOV SULE FAVOURS KEFFI ZONE

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state will conduct a direct primary election for the 2027 governorship and other elective positions.

He emphasized that, in the interest of fairness, it is now the turn of the Nasarawa West senatorial zone to produce the next governor.

Governor Sule made the remarks on Sunday while briefing the press after a marathon meeting with governorship aspirants, members of the National Assembly, the deputy governor, and senior party officials.

“The meeting provided a platform for all key stakeholders to share their views on navigating the primary election season while keeping the APC united and strong,” he said.

He praised the aspirants, many of whom have held or currently hold significant national positions, and highlighted the importance of working together to ensure a smooth primary process.

On the choice of primary election method, Governor Sule noted that the majority of attendees favored a direct primary—a stance aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s view that direct primaries allow every party member a voice in choosing the party’s candidate. He assured that the exercise will be open, transparent, and fully compliant with both the APC constitution and the Electoral Act.

He appealed to aspirants to accept the results in good faith, warning that anyone who leaves the party after a transparent election would be demonstrating an inability to accept defeat.

Regarding which senatorial zone should produce the next governor, Governor Sule explained that Nasarawa South (Lafia axis) produced the governor for twelve years, Nasarawa North (Akwanga axis) currently holds the office, and therefore, in the spirit of equity and brotherhood, the Nasarawa West senatorial zone (Keffi axis), which has not produced a governor for over twenty years, should now take its turn.

Governor Sule thanked stakeholders for their cooperation and expressed confidence that the APC in Nasarawa State would emerge from the primaries stronger, united, and prepared to win the 2027 general election.
