Borno Mosque Bombing: A Call for Decisive Counterterrorism Action.

The National Patriots unequivocally condemn the barbaric bombing of a mosque in Borno State, an attack the Nigerian Army has confirmed was carried out by Boko Haram terrorists. This heinous act—deliberately targeting civilians gathered for worship—represents a gross violation of human life, religious sanctity, and national security. It reinforces the urgent reality that terrorism in Nigeria remains a persistent and evolving criminal threat that must be confronted with renewed seriousness.

Terrorism Is Criminality, Not Genocide: Nigeria Must Respond with Strength.

Let it be clearly stated: this act is not genocide, but organized terrorism and criminality driven by extremist ideology. Boko Haram has, for over a decade, exploited security gaps, porous borders, and asymmetric warfare tactics to inflict harm on innocent Nigerians.

According to the United Nations, terrorism thrives where state response is reactive rather than anticipatory. As former UN Secretary-General António Guterres aptly warned, “Terrorism will not be defeated by force alone, but force remains indispensable when lives are under imminent threat.”

Enough Is Enough: Strengthening Nigeria’s Resolve Against Terrorism.

The increasing boldness of terrorist attacks in the North-East suggests that existing counterterrorism strategies are not yielding sufficient deterrence. While the bravery and sacrifices of the Nigerian Armed Forces are unquestionable, it is evident that they require enhanced capacity.

No modern counterterrorism effort succeeds without air superiority, advanced surveillance, precision strike capabilities, and real-time intelligence integration. The best form of defense, in this context, is a proactive and sustained offensive using modern air power technology to dismantle terrorist networks before they strike.

Protecting Innocent Lives: Why Nigeria Must Escalate the Counterterrorism War.

We therefore call on the Federal Government to substantially increase and ring-fence funding for the Armed Forces, specifically for modern air assets and intelligence systems. Furthermore, given the scale and persistence of the threat, Nigeria must rethink its national security leadership. Appointing a seasoned counterterrorism expert and retired senior military officer as National Security Adviser would bring operational insight, strategic clarity, and urgency to the fight.

Nigeria cannot afford complacency. Every life lost is a national tragedy. This moment demands decisive action, not rhetoric. The protection of innocent Nigerians must remain paramount, and no stone should be left unturned in defeating terrorism in all its forms.
