NDDC OFFICIALS RECEIVE INTERNATIONAL AWARDS IN LONDON FOR GOVERNANCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Officials of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) have been honoured internationally for their contributions to governance, accountability, and regional development in the Niger Delta.

The awards were presented at the Parliament House in Westminster, London, by the Institute of Public Sector Management to a delegation led by the commission’s Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.

Other awardees included the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Alabo Boma Iyaye, and the Director of Finance and Accounts, Mrs. Kunemofa Asu.

Dr. Ogbuku, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Rev. Obegha Oworibo, was recognised for “strategic and transformational leadership.” Iyaye, represented by Sir Kelechi Nwelue, was honoured for his contributions to integrity and administrative excellence, while Mrs. Asu received recognition for her role in promoting accountability and regional development.

Speaking after the ceremony, Ogbuku said the recognition reflects growing global acknowledgement of the commission’s work. He added that it would motivate the agency to expand its development efforts across the Niger Delta, particularly in infrastructure and human capital.

President of the institute, Dr. Martina Macpherson, praised the NDDC leadership for its commitment to addressing development challenges in the region. She noted that true regional development goes beyond projects, focusing on restoring hope, strengthening institutions, and creating sustainable opportunities.

The NDDC, a federal agency, is tasked with coordinating development initiatives in the Niger Delta, a region long affected by infrastructure deficits and environmental challenges.
