The President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, PhD, has voiced his support for Nigeria’s wrestling contingent as they departed for the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The team, consisting of four wrestlers—Mercy Genesis, Damola Ojo, Christianah Ogunsanya, and Esther Kolawole—along with coach Purity Akuh and NWF Secretary General Oluwasegun Ademisoro, left Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Friday.
Before their departure, Adeniyi encouraged the athletes to showcase their talent and represent Nigeria with pride. He emphasized that international competitions like this provide a platform to demonstrate Nigeria’s growth in wrestling and its quest for excellence at the World Championships and Olympic Games.

“Our athletes are not just competitors; they are ambasPostsadors of Nigeria. I want you to believe in yourselves, maintain discipline, and perform at your best to make the President and all Nigerians proud,” Adeniyi said.
He added, “We expect a spectacular performance from you and hope to see Nigeria’s flag hoisted victoriously in Riyadh.”
