NIGERIA VS TANZANIA: SUPER EAGLES PREDICTED XI – OSIMHEN AND ADAMS IN, NO PLACE FOR INTER MILAN LOANEE

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will kick off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Tanzania on Tuesday.

Nigeria enters the tournament amid uncertainty, following a series of unconvincing performances in recent months. Key players Ola Aina and William Troost-Ekong are absent from the squad, adding to concerns over the team’s readiness.

Head coach Eric Chelle has sparked debate with his unconventional tactical approach, and some of his decisions have faced criticism. This tournament could serve as his crucial opportunity to prove his capability on the continental stage.

Despite the doubts, the Super Eagles are considered clear favourites on paper due to their superior talent and past achievements. Chelle is expected to take a confident and proactive approach to the opening match.

Predicted Lineup

Goalkeeper
Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United is expected to start in goal. Though there were concerns about his fitness ahead of the tournament, his strong performance against Egypt last week has secured his place as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Defenders
With newcomer Benjamin Fredrick unavailable, Chelle will rely on experienced defenders at the back. Calvin Bassey is likely to start at centre-back, partnering Semi Ajayi. Bright Osayi-Samuel is expected to fill in at right-back in place of the injured Ola Aina, while Zaidu Sanusi is projected to continue at left-back.

Midfielders
Chelle typically prefers a two-man midfield against less challenging opponents, and a similar formation is anticipated against Tanzania. Captain Wilfred Ndidi will anchor the midfield defensively, while Alex Iwobi will dictate play. This setup leaves little room for Inter Milan duo Ebenezer Akinsanmiro and Raphael Onyedika.

Attackers
Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray will spearhead the attack, continuing his role as Nigeria’s standout striker. Akor Adams is expected to partner him upfront, having proven to be a reliable option. Samuel Chukwueze is likely to operate on the right wing, with Ademola Lookman on the left. Both wingers will balance defensive duties with creative responsibilities, frequently dropping into midfield to support Ndidi and Iwobi as needed.
