NIGERIAN MILITARY REJECTS ALLEGATIONS SOLDIERS AIDED PALM SUNDAY TERRORIST ATTACK ON JOS COMMUNITY

The Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation ENDURING PEACE has refuted allegations that its personnel provided cover for attackers involved in the Palm Sunday assault on Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement on Tuesday, signed by Media Information Officer Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, the task force said the accusations, reportedly made by a youth leader from the community, were capable of undermining ongoing security operations.

“The JTF unequivocally states that at no point did troops provide cover for the terrorists responsible for this unfortunate attack that claimed innocent lives,” the statement read.

The military explained that troops responded swiftly after receiving a distress call, but the attackers had already fled by the time forces arrived. Four gun trucks were dispatched to reinforce security, and the personnel acted professionally to prevent further bloodshed and pursue the fleeing criminals, as confirmed by eyewitnesses and other security agencies.

Following an investigation into the allegation, the task force confirmed it was unfounded and warned that such misinformation could erode trust between communities and security agencies.

Residents were urged to disregard the claim, remain calm, and continue cooperating with security forces by providing credible information on terrorist activities. The military also reassured Plateau State residents that coordinated efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the attack and maintain peace across the region.
