NIGERIAN POLICE DISMISS FOUR OFFICERS OVER ALLEGED MURDER OF SEVEN TRADERS AT OWODE-ONIRIN IN LAGOS

Four police officers have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force over their alleged involvement in the killing of seven traders in the Owode-Onirin area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the development on Thursday while speaking with reporters at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ikeja. He said investigations into the incident were still ongoing, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Jimoh explained that the dismissed officers were allegedly brought from Nasarawa State by the principal suspect, identified as Ariori, who is believed to have played a key role in the killings.

The commissioner stressed that the police were determined to ensure justice for the victims. He added that the investigation had been supported by forensic evidence, including ballistic analysis and autopsy reports.

According to him, the matter has not been ignored and the police are committed to seeing the case through to the end.

“This matter has not been swept under the carpet, and we want the public and the families of the victims to know that nobody can stop us from ensuring that justice is done,” Jimoh said.

“We will leave no stone unturned and will not be intimidated by anyone. All suspects will be prosecuted, and the courts remain open to hear every case.”

Jimoh also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to maintaining law and order across Lagos State. He noted that no individual or group would be allowed to obstruct the course of justice as the investigation progresses.

He further revealed that about 98 per cent of the investigation had been completed and assured residents that the police would continue to take steps to protect lives and property.

The commissioner urged members of the public, especially traders and residents in the affected communities, to remain vigilant while the police work towards concluding the case.

The incident occurred in August 2025 during a clash between land grabbers and traders in the Owode-Onirin area of Lagos State.
