In a statement shared on X, the lawmaker explained that continuous bandit attacks and what he described as insufficient government response have left many communities exposed and unsafe. He noted that several villages have been destroyed, forcing residents to flee their homes.

Lamido said his repeated efforts to draw federal attention to the crisis did not produce meaningful results. He emphasized that his decision to leave the party was motivated by the need to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people he represents, rather than personal or political interests.

According to him, the move followed consultations with supporters, political associates, and community leaders. Although he did not disclose his next political destination, he stated that his future actions will be focused on improving security and supporting grassroots development.

The senator also urged the federal government to intensify efforts in tackling banditry and restoring peace in Sokoto and other affected northern areas, warning that failure to act decisively could further escalate the situation.
