#NIS Appoints ACI Akinlabi as New Public Relations Officer

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has appointed Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI) A.S. Akinlabi as its new Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO).

This appointment follows the redeployment of his predecessor, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Kenneth Udo, who now serves as the Passport Control Officer in Akwa Ibom State Command. The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, approved Akinlabi’s appointment, which takes immediate effect.

A Rich Background in Immigration Service

ACI Akinlabi hails from Ibarapa Central Local Government Area, Oyo State. He holds a BSc in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. A distinguished fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria, he brings extensive experience in immigration, security, and public relations.

Enlisted into the Nigeria Immigration Service on December 29, 2006, Akinlabi completed his Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School, Kano, in December 2007. Over the years, he has attended several specialized courses in Migration, Security, and Border Management, both locally and internationally.

His career spans various directorates, including Accounts and Finance, Protocol, Training and Staff Development, and Passport and Travel Documents. He was also among the pioneer staff of the NIS Contact Centre, where he served meritoriously before becoming Second-in-Command at the SERVICOM Unit, a role closely linked to public relations.

Diplomatic and International Experience

Before this appointment, Akinlabi served as an Immigration Attaché at the Embassy of Nigeria in The Hague, Netherlands, where he gained valuable experience in international relations, diplomacy, and public communications. His expertise is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the image of the Nigeria Immigration Service on both national and international fronts.

Expectations in His New Role

As the new Service Public Relations Officer, ACI Akinlabi will be responsible for:

  • Managing the NIS’s public and media relations
  • Handling crisis communication
  • Projecting and sustaining the good image of the Service globally

The Nigeria Immigration Service has congratulated ACI Akinlabi on his new role and expressed confidence in his ability to enhance the agency’s public engagement and visibility.
