#NYSC Corps Member Beaten to Death by Hoodlums in Plateau

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Safwan Adamu Fade, has been brutally beaten to death by hoodlums in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Fade, who was serving at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Pankshin, was reportedly attacked by a gang of assailants at a local stadium in the area.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, confirmed the incident on Tuesday at the Command’s headquarters in Jos. He announced the arrest of two suspects, Samuel Dang Kat and Zatshinen Wubwerwe, in connection with the attack.

According to Adesina, a total of 24 suspects have been arrested for various offences, as the police intensify efforts to apprehend all those responsible for the killing.

How It Happened

The police commissioner explained that on January 23, 2025, at around 7:00 a.m., one Umbule Boreng Reuben of Pankshin LGA reported the attack. The report stated that on the evening of January 22, Fade was assaulted by unidentified hoodlums at the Pankshin township stadium.

Upon receiving the distress call, the police deployed officers to the scene, and the victim was rushed to the hospital. Although he was initially declared stable by doctors, his condition worsened, prompting a transfer to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police Vow to Bring Perpetrators to Justice

Adesina assured the public that justice would be served, stating that efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspects who fled the scene.

He also commended law-abiding citizens for their cooperation in crime-fighting efforts, highlighting the recent successes of the Plateau State Police Command in tackling criminal activities.

“Our aggressive onslaught against criminals has led to the massive arrest of offenders and the recovery of arms and ammunition,” he said.

The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as investigations into the tragic killing continue.
