#Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa Dissolves Cabinet, Retains Two Commissioners

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has dissolved the State Executive Council (SEC) with immediate effect. The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement issued by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, in Akure.

The governor expressed gratitude to the outgoing cabinet members for their service and contributions to the state’s development under his administration. He also wished them success in their future endeavors.

The cabinet members, who were sworn in during March 2024 after Aiyedatiwa assumed office, have been directed to hand over all government property in their possession to the accounting officers of their respective ministries.

Background

Aiyedatiwa, who served as the deputy governor under the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, assumed the governorship following Akeredolu’s passing on December 27, 2023, in Germany after a prolonged illness.

The dissolution comes shortly after Aiyedatiwa’s victory in the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election, where he led the All Progressives Congress (APC) to a landslide victory, securing wins in all 18 local government areas of the state. He defeated Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and 15 other candidates.

Governor Aiyedatiwa is set to be officially inaugurated for his first full term on February 24, 2025.

Further details about the two retained commissioners and the composition of a new cabinet are expected in the coming weeks.
