#Osun Ex-Convict Re-Arrested for Stealing N600,000 Plasma TV Days After State Pardon

Sunday Omisakin, an ex-convict recently granted state pardon by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in December 2024, has been re-arrested for theft. Omisakin allegedly broke into a residence in Osogbo on January 3, 2025, and stole a plasma television worth ₦600,000.

Omisakin was among those pardoned by Governor Adeleke on December 24, 2024, under a clemency initiative that included individuals previously convicted of simple offences and others sentenced to death for more severe crimes.

According to the charge sheet, Omisakin was accused of breaking into the home of Shittu Damilare in the Iludun area of Osogbo, where he committed the theft. The charges read in part:

  • Count I: Breaking and entering the residence of Shittu Damilare and stealing a plasma TV valued at ₦600,000.
  • Count II: Theft of property valued at ₦600,000.

The offences were described as violations of Sections 411(1)(2), 383, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

Omisakin was first arraigned on January 7, 2025, where he applied for bail. However, the prosecutor, Kayode Adeoye, opposed the application. Magistrate A. Adeyeba postponed the bail ruling to January 10, ultimately denying the request and ordering Omisakin’s remand at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.

The incident has drawn attention to the state’s pardon process, raising concerns about the monitoring and reintegration of pardoned individuals back into society.
