The Nigerian Army has taken a major step toward modernising its training framework with the launch of a cutting-edge Wargaming Centre at the Department of Land Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, on Saturday.

In a post on the Nigerian Army’s X account, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, shared that the Commandant of AFCSC, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji, welcomed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and emphasized the College’s dedication to producing officers who are intellectually prepared for command, instructional, and staff roles in increasingly complex security scenarios.

The new Wargaming Centre, initiated and driven by the COAS, is designed to enhance officers’ ability to develop modern operational strategies, improve strategic reasoning, and strengthen decision-making in today’s dynamic combat environments.

Alhaji praised the Army leadership for providing a world-class facility and affirmed that the College would continue supporting the Department of Land Warfare in delivering high-quality professional military education.
Lieutenant General Shaibu highlighted that the Wargaming Centre would serve as an essential tool for refining commanders’ planning, rehearsal, and operational execution skills.
“Investing in advanced training technologies is crucial for maintaining an edge over potential adversaries and enhancing the Army’s operational readiness across multiple theatres,” he said.

He encouraged both students and instructors to make the most of the facility, noting that modern military operations require adaptation to unpredictable, fast-changing, and technology-driven environments.
Reaffirming his vision to upgrade all military training infrastructure to international standards, Shaibu pointed to AFCSC’s reputation as a hub for officers from around the world, describing the Wargaming Centre as a timely and vital addition.

The COAS also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his consistent support for national security, which he said continues to drive the Army’s transformation initiatives.
He further commended the Commandant and the College community for their commitment to advancing military professionalism.
