The Kebbi State Police Command has clarified that the recent explosion at the General Hospital in Bagudo was the result of an accidental fire, not explosives or aerial activity.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, caused panic among residents, but thankfully no injuries or fatalities were reported, the police confirmed.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, explained that the explosion was triggered by “an inferno which overheated air-conditioning units and refrigerator gas cylinders, causing the loud explosions that were heard.”
“Investigations and expert assessments have confirmed that this was an accidental fire. No explosives or aerial activity were involved,” he said.

SP Usman further stated that assessments conducted by EOD-CBRN experts, along with the Commissioner of Police Tactical Team, verified the absence of explosives or any external aerial involvement. “There was no loss of life or injury, as confirmed by on-site expert teams,” he added.

The Police Command urged the public and media to disregard unverified reports suggesting a bomb or helicopter involvement. “We advise everyone to rely solely on official information. The situation is fully under control, and the Command remains committed to public safety and transparency,” SP Usman emphasized.
Earlier reports by PUNCH Online had described confusion following the explosion. However, the state police clarified that the incident was purely accidental, with no criminal intent, and security agencies swiftly secured the area to prevent any further risks.
