POLICE ARREST 3,081 SUSPECTS FOR VARIOUS CRIMES IN KANO

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a total of 3,081 suspects in 2025 for crimes ranging from armed robbery and kidnapping to drug trafficking and thuggery across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, made this disclosure during an end-of-year press briefing at the command’s headquarters on Tuesday, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

Bakori highlighted the command’s achievements in crime prevention and community peacebuilding since he assumed office on March 17, 2025.

He noted that the police recovered numerous firearms, including AK-47 rifles, pistols, locally made guns, and ammunition, along with illicit drugs, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, and mobile phones.

The arrests included 146 suspects linked to armed robbery, 50 kidnapping suspects, 112 suspected drug dealers, and more than 2,300 alleged thugs. Fourteen kidnapping victims were successfully rescued during various operations.

The Commissioner explained that the command’s success was driven by strategies such as intelligence-led policing, community engagement, officer capacity building, and joint border patrols with sister security agencies. He also credited the launch of Operation Kukan Kura for significantly reducing crime and enhancing peace and security across Kano State.

Bakori called on residents to support the police by reporting suspicious activities and providing timely information. He assured the public, “We remain fully committed to ensuring peace and security in the state.”
