#President Tinubu Departs Nigeria for 5-Day Abu Dhabi Sustainability Summit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Saturday, January 11, for a five-day trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to participate in the 2025 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW 2025).

Invitation and Focus

According to a statement issued by Presidential Spokesman Bayo Onanuga on Friday, January 10, the President’s trip follows an invitation from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. The summit, themed “The Nexus of Next: Supercharging Sustainable Progress,” will take place from January 12 to 18 in Abu Dhabi.

The event will convene global leaders, policymakers, business figures, and civil society to discuss innovative pathways for advancing sustainable development and fostering a new era of global prosperity.

Significance of ADSW

Now in its 15th year, the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week has become a global platform for fostering collaboration and forging strategic partnerships. It has catalyzed high-value agreements and alliances between governments, industry leaders, and clean energy innovators, driving progress in the global sustainability agenda.

Nigeria’s Priorities at the Summit

President Tinubu will use the occasion to highlight his administration’s key reforms, particularly those targeting energy sufficiency, public health, transportation, and economic development.

Additionally, the President and his delegation will engage with UAE leadership to discuss bilateral issues of mutual interest and opportunities for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.

Accompanying Delegation

The President will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and other senior government officials.

Recent Diplomatic Engagements

This marks President Tinubu’s second international trip of 2025. Earlier in the week, he returned from Ghana, where he attended the inauguration of John Mahama. During the event, Tinubu served as the special guest of honor and delivered a speech reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s new administration.

The President is expected to return to Nigeria on Thursday, January 16.
