#Republican Lawmaker Proposes Constitutional Amendment for Trump’s Third Term

A Republican congressman, Andy Ogles, has introduced a resolution aimed at amending the U.S. Constitution to allow former President Donald Trump to seek a third term in office.

Currently, the 22nd Amendment restricts U.S. presidents to two terms. Ogles’ proposal seeks to revise this, stating: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times…”

In his statement, Ogles justified the move by praising Trump’s leadership, asserting, “President Trump has proven himself as the only figure in modern history capable of reversing America’s decline and restoring its greatness. He must be given the time necessary to achieve that goal.”

The lawmaker further claimed the amendment is necessary to correct what he described as the “disastrous course” set by the Biden administration.

Though Trump has previously dismissed the idea of running for a third term, he joked about the possibility during discussions with Republican lawmakers, suggesting he might consider it if circumstances changed.

Ogles also commended Trump’s executive actions during his return to the presidency in 2024, particularly his policies on border security, energy production, and withdrawing from the World Health Organization (WHO).

The 22nd Amendment, adopted in 1951, was introduced after President Franklin D. Roosevelt won four terms in office, with many Americans agreeing with George Washington’s stance against serving more than two terms to prevent authoritarian rule.

With Republicans holding a slim majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, the resolution faces significant hurdles, requiring broad bipartisan support and ratification by at least 38 states to become law.
