Rivers Police Debunk Viral Claims of Herdsmen Attack

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed a widely circulated social media video alleging that herdsmen attempted to attack a community in the state but were thwarted by Ijaw youths.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, described the claim as completely false and intentionally misleading. She said the video was fabricated by individuals seeking to create fear and disrupt the peace currently being enjoyed across Rivers State.

According to the police, there have been no reports, intelligence, or recorded incidents indicating that Fulani herdsmen launched any form of attack within the state. The Command condemned the narrative as a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to undermine public confidence and destabilize the existing calm.

Residents were urged to disregard the viral video and avoid sharing unverified information capable of causing panic or damaging the state’s reputation.

Iringe-Koko reaffirmed that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, is fully committed to protecting lives and property. She noted that the police have strengthened security operations through patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads, all under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju, who is prioritizing transparency and accountability.

The Police Command advised the public to remain calm, stay vigilant, and verify updates through official channels before circulating information.
