#Senator John Mbata Elected New President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide

Former Senator John Mbata, who represented Rivers East in the National Assembly, has been elected as the new President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization.

The election took place during the Ohanaeze Ndigbo General Assembly meeting held at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu on Friday.

Leadership Transition

Mbata succeeds Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu, who had been appointed to complete the tenure of the late Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu from Imo State. The election, conducted by consensus, was attended by prominent Igbo leaders, including the governors of Enugu, Imo, and Anambra States, as well as dignitaries such as Senators Chris Ngige, Ben Obi, and Victor Umeh.

New Executive Members

The newly elected executives of Ohanaeze Ndigbo include:

  • Prince Okey Nwadinobi (Abia State): National Deputy President
  • Chief Emeka Sibeidu (Anambra State): Secretary General
  • Chidera Anieke (Enugu State): National Treasurer
  • Ezechukwu Ezechi (Imo State): National Publicity Secretary
  • Okey Ugwu (Ebonyi State): National Legal Adviser

The position of Deputy Secretary General has been allocated to Delta State, alongside other zonal representations.

Commitment to Progress

In his acceptance speech, Senator Mbata expressed gratitude to the outgoing President-General for his exemplary leadership and the smooth transition process. He pledged to lead the organization with dedication and called for the support and collaboration of governors and stakeholders in states under Ohanaeze Worldwide to advance the group’s goals.

A Call for Unity and Progress

The new leadership aims to build on the foundations of unity and socio-cultural advancement, reinforcing the voice of the Igbo people in national and global affairs.
