SERAP URGES TINUBU TO PROBE ALLEGED ₦2.9BN FRAUD IN NIGCOMSAT, NNRA

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct a full investigation into alleged financial irregularities amounting to ₦2.9 billion across the Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority.

In a letter dated April 11, 2026, the group urged the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, alongside relevant agencies and the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to account for and clarify the alleged diversion or mismanagement of public funds highlighted in audit findings.

SERAP stated that the allegations stem from reports of financial discrepancies involving the two agencies, including unauthorised investments, unremitted revenues, questionable payments, and unsupported expenditures. The organisation also demanded transparency regarding a company that reportedly received ₦465 million in unauthorised investment from one of the agencies.

The group warned that failure to investigate the matter within seven days could lead to legal action, stressing that accountability is critical given the strategic importance of both institutions to Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and national safety systems.

According to audit findings referenced by SERAP, the Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd was accused of failing to account for hundreds of millions of naira in investments and revenue remittances, while also making irregular payments and unsupported financial transfers. The report also flagged similar concerns at the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, including questionable training expenses, procurement issues, and undocumented payments.

SERAP argued that the alleged financial lapses reflect a broader pattern of mismanagement and lack of transparency, warning that such issues undermine public trust, weaken anti-corruption efforts, and hinder national development.

The organisation insisted that all individuals found responsible should be investigated and prosecuted where necessary, while any missing funds should be recovered and returned to the public treasury.
