Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has called on African governments to bar Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the United Kingdom’s Conservative Party, from visiting the continent due to her remarks about Nigeria.
According to Blueprint, Badenoch has defended her contentious views on Nigeria, even after Vice President Kashim Shettima and other officials criticized her for allegedly disparaging the nation.
Badenoch reportedly described her Nigerian upbringing as one marked by hardship, instability, and corruption.
In an Instagram Live session, Seun Kuti reacted strongly, advocating for strict measures against Badenoch:
“People have been praising this woman [Kemi Badenoch], someone who has been disrespecting not only us but also our ancestors. She claimed we should pay Europeans for colonialism.
“She is saying we should compensate them for killing millions of our ancestors and for the atrocities they committed on our lands.
“This is someone African governments should ban from stepping foot on the continent. If she ever sets foot in Africa, she should be jailed.”
