At least 30 women and girls were kidnapped on Saturday night after armed bandits raided Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Security analyst Bakatsine, who disclosed the incident in a post on X on Sunday, said the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness. One resident was injured during the invasion.
The gunmen reportedly abducted dozens of women and girls, including a bride and her bridesmaids, just hours before her wedding ceremony. The attack is the latest in a series of violent raids across the North-West, where communities continue to face persistent threats from armed groups.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
Sharing details of the attack, Bakatsine wrote:
“A day meant for joy and celebration was shattered as bandits stormed and inflicted wounds. How much more pain must ordinary families endure before they find safety?”
The assault adds to a worrying rise in recent abductions, with attackers increasingly targeting schools, churches and remote settlements. Security agencies say they are working to contain the situation with heightened deployment of troops and specialised police units across affected areas.
