TERRORISTS INVADE ORO-AGO COMMUNITY IN KWARA, KILL VIGILANTE COMMANDER, SHOOT CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER

Suspected terrorists have attacked Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing a vigilante commander and injuring the town’s chief security officer, locally known as the Olu-òde.

The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday evening when heavily armed gunmen stormed the area and attempted to invade the local police station. Sources said the attackers, believed to be kidnappers, clashed with local security operatives during the operation.

A source familiar with the situation said the vigilante commander was killed on the spot, while the chief security officer, identified as Odeyemi, was shot during the attack.

According to residents, the gunmen operated in the community for over an hour, creating panic as people either hid in their homes or fled to nearby areas for safety.

“They tried to take over the police station. In the process, they killed the vigilante commander and shot the Olu-òde,” the source said.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from security agencies, and it remains unclear whether additional forces have been deployed to the area.

Oro-Ago and nearby communities in Ifelodun have recently faced rising insecurity, with repeated cases of kidnappings and armed attacks.

Security alerts had earlier warned of possible coordinated attacks in parts of Kwara South, including Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin local government areas. Authorities had urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements.

The latest attack has further heightened fears among residents, as concerns grow over safety and the response of security agencies in the region.
