#Tin Can Island Command Unveils B’Odogwu System, Generates ₦86 Billion Revenue Ahead of Customs Day Celebration

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin Can Island Port Command, has announced the deployment of the innovative B’Odogwu Unified Customs Management System (UCMS) to enhance trade facilitation and improve cargo clearance efficiency. This comes as the Command celebrates the 2025 International Customs Day (ICD) in Lagos, marking a major milestone in its modernization efforts.

Speaking at the ICD event, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Controller of the Tin Can Island Command, revealed that the system’s pilot phase at PTML Command had been a success, addressing initial challenges and setting the stage for seamless implementation. The B’Odogwu system integrates cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and e-customs platforms, ensuring transparency, reducing human intervention, and speeding up cargo clearance.

Impressive Revenue Collection
The Command reported generating ₦86 billion in revenue as of January 27, 2025, surpassing the ₦83 billion collected during the same period in 2024. Comptroller Onyeka attributed this growth to enhanced operational strategies and the adoption of innovative systems like B’Odogwu.

Commitment to Efficiency and Accountability
Comptroller Onyeka emphasized the importance of the WCO’s 2025 theme, which focuses on transforming commitments into measurable actions that advance trade facilitation, border security, and economic growth. He outlined a strategic action plan anchored on capacity building, enhanced collaboration, and accountability to drive the Command’s mission forward.

“Our work has far-reaching implications for millions of lives. By delivering on our commitments, we are fulfilling our mandate and contributing to national prosperity,” he stated.

National and Regional Significance
ACG Charles Orbih, the Zonal Coordinator for Zone A, highlighted the critical role of the Zone as Nigeria’s economic gateway, connecting the nation to global markets. He called for continued investment in customs infrastructure, technology, and human capital to strengthen Nigeria’s economic resilience and global competitiveness.

Global Recognition
Ian Saunders, Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO), praised the NCS’s efforts, urging Customs administrations worldwide to translate their commitments into tangible actions. He emphasized the role of modernization, digital transformation, and collaboration in achieving efficiency, security, and prosperity.

Call to Action
The event concluded with a call for customs officers and stakeholders to embrace innovation, professionalism, and collaboration throughout the year, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a competitive player in the global economy.
