###TINUBU, AKPABIO, GOVS BID SEGUN AWOLOWO FAREWELL

A mood of deep reverence filled Our Saviour’s Church at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, on Friday as top government officials and dignitaries joined family members and friends to honour the memory of Olusegun Awolowo.

The church auditorium resonated with prayers, hymns, scripture readings and consoling words delivered by ministers, choirs and worshippers.

From the early arrivals to the steady flow of political and social figures, the gathering reflected a collective sense of grief and appreciation for the legacy left behind by the late Awolowo.

Segun Awolowo, a grandson of the late statesman Chief Obafemi Awolowo, died at the age of 62.

Throughout the ceremony, speakers offered heartfelt tributes, praising his humility, integrity and unwavering commitment to public service.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, expressed sympathy to the Awolowo family.
He commended the deceased for his exceptional dedication, from his role as Special Assistant to the President to his leadership as Executive Director/CEO of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council.

“I have experienced the pain of losing a child; it is a grief one does not bear alone,” he said.
He added, “Segun served this nation with discipline and intention. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio described Awolowo as a unifier and a dependable figure, recalling his modesty and steadfast support over the years.
“There is a divinely appointed time for everyone. Segun lived well and will be fondly remembered,” he remarked.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised him as a link between Nigeria’s past and future, highlighting his commitment to duty and his standing as a leader among his peers.
“Our hearts are heavy, yet grateful for a life well spent,” he said.

Governor Dapo Abiodun also paid tribute to Awolowo, acknowledging his patriotism and impactful work in strengthening Nigeria’s export industry.
He noted that Awolowo championed local manufacturers and small businesses with exceptional zeal.
“Segun left behind a legacy of sacrifice and principled service,” he said, describing him as an “extraordinary son, husband and father.”

In his final remarks, the Diocesan Bishop of Lagos, Rt. Revd. Ifedola Gabriel Okupevi, thanked President Tinubu, Akpabio, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the governors and all dignitaries for supporting the Awolowo family.
He prayed for divine comfort and long life for everyone in attendance, adding, “May we all live long enough to fulfill our purpose.”
