President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu (Rtd) as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), with the appointment taking effect from December 1, 2025.

The announcement was made on Tuesday in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. According to the statement, the move is part of the administration’s drive to promote accountability, transparency, and improved service delivery in the management of military pensions.

AVM Adamu, a retired senior officer of the Nigerian Air Force from Borno State, is widely regarded as a seasoned financial administrator with deep expertise in budgeting, finance, and institutional leadership within the military system.

His career includes notable roles such as Directing Staff at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Deputy Director of Budget at the Defence Intelligence Agency, Principal Staff Officer (Finance) at the Air Warfare Centre, and Commander of the 081 Pay and Accounting Group.
He also served as Director of Finance at the NAF Headquarters, Managing Director of Nigerian Air Force Investment Limited (NAFIL) and its group of companies, and Directing Staff at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.
President Tinubu urged the new MPB chairman to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and patriotism, and to apply his wealth of financial experience to improve veterans’ welfare and ensure proper handling of pension funds.

The President’s appointments have continued to attract mixed reactions from Nigerians, with critics alleging regional bias. Tinubu has consistently dismissed the claims, insisting that his appointments have been fair and balanced.
