TINUBU CONFIRMS KILLING OF BRIG-GEN. BRAIMOH, OTHERS IN BORNO, SAYS DEADLY INSURGENT ATTACK WAS ‘DESPERATE’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reacted to the killing of Brigadier-General O.O. Braimoh and other soldiers in a recent insurgent attack in Borno State, describing them as “unforgettable heroes” who died in active service to the nation.

In a statement issued on Friday, the President expressed deep condolences to the families of the fallen officers and praised the courage of troops engaged in counter-insurgency operations across the country.

Tinubu said the military has continued to make gains against terrorist groups, insisting that the recent attack was a “desperate response” by insurgents who have come under sustained pressure.

“From the reports I have received, our armed forces have been conducting sustained, intense land and air offensives against the insurgents, neutralising many terrorist fighters and commanders,” he said. “The insurgents’ counterattack is a sign of desperation.”

The President specifically mourned Brigadier-General Braimoh, who was among those killed during the assault on a military formation in Benisheikh, Borno State.

“I extend my condolences to the families of our gallant soldiers, led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our country,” Tinubu said. “Their sacrifices will not be in vain.”

He urged members of the Armed Forces not to be discouraged by the incident, calling on them to remain focused and resilient in ongoing operations.

“I urge the Military High Command and our troops in all theatres of operation: do not lose heart, do not be weary, do not be discouraged,” the President said. “Continue to serve with honour, courage, and patriotism.”

Tinubu also assured that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting the military with equipment, logistics, and welfare improvements needed to sustain operations against insurgency.

He appealed to Nigerians and the media to continue to support the armed forces, warning against narratives that could undermine troop morale.

“These soldiers are our heroes—unforgettable and irreplaceable,” he said.

The President further extended condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to working with state authorities to achieve lasting peace.

However, the development comes amid reports alleging that the late Brigadier-General may have been affected by operational and equipment challenges during the attack, raising fresh concerns about logistics and maintenance within the military.
