TINUBU DIRECTS VP SHETTIMA TO CONVENE NEC MEETING ON RANCHING AMID FARMER-HERDER CLASHES

Amid escalating tensions and violent incidents in several states, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered Vice President Kashim Shettima to convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting focused entirely on addressing the long-standing open-grazing and ranching crisis in Nigeria.

No official date has been announced yet for the NEC session.

Earlier reports by SaharaReporters revealed that President Tinubu had instructed the National Security Adviser (NSA) to immediately begin the recruitment, training, and deployment of additional forest guards across the country. This move is part of the government’s renewed efforts to tackle rising insecurity.

The directive was confirmed on Wednesday in a statement by Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications.

The presidency emphasized that Nigeria continues to face widespread challenges, including kidnapping, banditry, and terrorism. President Tinubu stressed the need for a more robust and coordinated response to these threats.

“We are confronting serious challenges, including kidnapping and terrorism. We must employ all available forces to safeguard our citizens,” the President stated.
