TINUBU GOVERNMENT INSISTS NIGERIA SAFE FOR ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES DESPITE US SECURITY ADVISORY

The Federal Government has dismissed concerns raised by a recent United States travel advisory, insisting that Nigeria remains safe for business, governance, and daily activities despite the warning issued by the US Embassy in Abuja.

The advisory had authorised the departure of non-emergency US diplomatic staff, citing security concerns in parts of the country, but the Nigerian government described the move as a routine precaution based on internal procedures rather than an accurate reflection of the security situation on the ground.

In a statement issued on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the government maintained that public institutions across the country remain fully functional, with no disruption to economic or governmental activities.

According to the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, security operations across the country have recorded significant improvements due to coordinated military actions, intelligence-driven operations, and stronger collaboration among security agencies.

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, stated that while isolated security challenges exist in some regions, there is no nationwide breakdown of law and order, adding that most parts of the country remain stable.

He noted that ongoing security operations have disrupted criminal networks, reduced violent activities, and improved safety in vulnerable communities across several states.

The government also reiterated that Nigeria remains open for investment and international partnerships, stressing that economic reforms are helping to boost investor confidence and strengthen the country’s global outlook.

It further urged international partners to engage directly with Nigerian authorities for a clearer understanding of the security situation, while calling for balanced assessments of developments in the country.

The statement reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining security improvements and ensuring the safety of citizens, residents, and foreign nationals, describing Nigeria as a safe destination for business and travel.
