TINUBU SWEARS IN TAIWO OYEDELE AS MINISTER OF STATE FOR FINANCE

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance during a ceremony held on Monday, January 16, 2026, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Oyedele’s appointment followed his confirmation by the Senate on March 11. The approval was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio after lawmakers cleared him through a voice vote at the Committee of the Whole.

He replaces Doris Uzoka-Anite, who was recently redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, marking her third ministerial assignment under the current administration.

Before his appointment, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he played a significant role in efforts to restructure Nigeria’s tax system.

The 50-year-old economist and public policy expert hails from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He has also attended executive programmes at global institutions such as the London School of Economics, Yale University, Harvard Kennedy School, and the Gordon Institute of Business Science.

Oyedele spent over two decades at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. Alongside his professional career, he is a professor at Babcock University and also serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

His appointment is expected to strengthen the administration’s ongoing fiscal and tax reform agenda.
