#Tragedy in Jigawa: Wedding Poisoning Leaves One Dead, Groom Hospitalized

A wedding celebration in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State turned tragic after food served at the reception was allegedly poisoned, resulting in one death and leaving the groom in critical condition.

According to reports, the bride is suspected of tampering with the food, potentially motivated by a personal vendetta. The Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident, stating that two suspects, including the bride, have been arrested and are being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department.

“All guests who consumed the tainted food have been discharged from the hospital, except for the one confirmed fatality,” Adam said. He assured the public that the police are committed to uncovering the truth and delivering justice.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have yet to disclose the identities of the deceased, the groom, and other victims.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has intervened to bring home a 28-year-old Nigerian woman, Eniola Isaac, trafficked to Iraq under false pretenses of better opportunities.

Isaac, subjected to abuse and mistreatment by her employer, is expected to return to Nigeria on January 3, thanks to the efforts of officials from Nigeria’s mission in Jordan, which oversees Iraq.

NiDCOM also disclosed the ongoing investigation into the suspicious death of another Nigerian who had traveled to Iraq for work. The government has demanded an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The commission warned against unscrupulous agents luring Nigerians to Iraq with false promises, often leading to slavery and exploitation.

Both incidents underscore the need for vigilance and greater action against such malicious acts, whether domestic or international.
