TROOPS ARREST 53 SUSPECTED CRIMINALS, EXTREMIST GROUP MEMBERS IN PLATEAU

The Nigerian Army has apprehended 53 suspected criminals and members of extremist groups during coordinated operations in Plateau State over the past 24 hours.

According to operational reports, troops of Operations Ensuring Peace conducted targeted raids in Barkin Ladi and Jos North Local Government Areas. In Barkin Ladi, nine suspects were arrested at suspected drug hideouts in Angwan Yama and Kasua, found in possession of suspected Cannabis sativa, mobile phones, power banks, and other items.

In Jos North, 44 individuals suspected to be members of the Sara Suka group were arrested across multiple communities, with troops recovering various dangerous weapons.

The army also recovered four stolen cattle from Lugere Community in Riyom Local Government Area and returned them to their rightful owner, while efforts continued to apprehend the cattle rustlers.

Operations responding to communal clashes and suspected militia attacks in Taraba and Benue states led to the recovery of two corpses, with one civilian sustaining gunshot injuries in Guma Local Government Area. The injured person was evacuated to a hospital for treatment.

The army reaffirmed its commitment to proactive operations aimed at dismantling criminal and extremist networks, protecting civilians, and maintaining law and order nationwide.

Earlier, on Thursday, troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke arrested two suspected gunrunners in Taraba State and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road.
